As our team works in the realm of lines, space, shape, and texture, all while maintaining a delicate balance between form and function, a home is often transformed into an individual masterpiece. Standing sentinel in a beautifully wooded Michigan setting, this towering, mountain modern style residence features bold lines and captivating composition. Drawing from the combined skills of both our Interior and Architectural teams, this client collaboration is truly magnificent.

In a designer-driven project, our Interiors team is entrusted with making impactful decisions and managing selections with intention from initial concept to finishing touches. Here, a minimalist, industrial aesthetic was maintained throughout the design both on the exterior and in the interior allowing for the splendor of the surroundings to take center stage. Natural light graces the main living spaces and brings welcoming overall warmth, while the use of neutral earth tones and natural elements adds to the fluidity of indoor and outdoor spaces.

The SDG holistic approach to interior design is evident throughout many aspects of this roughly 7,000 SF project. Motivated by the desire to create an interior that paid homage to the outdoors, an abundance of windows reaching toward the 22’ ceilings at the entry and throughout the great room and dining space provide panoramic views of nature. A floor to ceiling window wall just off the dramatic floating staircase highlights a two-story wine room and beverage center. Opposing walls in this thirst-quenching space are equipped with custom steel wine racks, insuring plenty of entertainment opportunities.

Details
Steel beams support wooden trusses that extend through exterior walls to flex their core strength and support the floors and roof above, in addition to establishing visual focal points to the exterior design. An open kitchen with working walk-in pantry and bulk storage is a chef’s dream, and his and hers offices and a post room ensure that everyone is getting the job done and working up an appetite. At days end, family and friends can retire to one of six well-appointed bedrooms. Other feature rooms include a four-car garage with pet shower, craft room, exercise room with yoga and barre space, loft area, and a roomy first floor guest suite.

Outdoor amenities include a large, covered patio space, as well as an open patio space with hot tub and fire table. A private deck off the master suite is perfect for quiet reflection. On a cold winter day, one might even be transported to a more rugged setting — perhaps surrounded by snow covered peaks and dense alpine forests.
